Waiting... 2

Ink detail, before I inevitably mess up the drawing when I color it (haha):

Feathers. LOTS of feathers.

Halloween: Two Fuzzies

My digital camera needs batteries. All my photos this week have been in fuzzy focus!

Cyclops - Colored

Just an update. I'll probably refine the figure some more, and color the background and foreground.

Odyssey Stuff - Cyclops

I was watching a show on the Odyssey a little over a week ago, and I began a drawing. This work-in-progress is my version of the cyclops from one of Odysseus' island trials on his way home from the Trojan War.

I did the pencils last Sunday after that show, and most of the inks today during the Patriots game. My 'cyclops' actually had 2 mismatched eyes at one point, but the smaller one was lost in battle in the past. I'll color it at some point, and post.

Must...get...inside!

Still needs work, but this is the first day's accomplishment.
There will be a window in the wall somewhere.

Shark Week: Ken Micro

I woke up today and found "Jaws" on TV. I watched the first hour or so, and then decided to do a micro drawing. It took me about 20 minutes, glasses off and face practically pressed to the paper, as I guided my Micron 005 pens and a few colored pencils across the page. As you can see from the photos, the drawing can easily be hidden by four quarters:

Shark Week: Ken 2010

My first contribution is a bit of a cheat, as I already had this one drawn, back in 2010. I had planned to do a full week of comic strips that year, but I only finished this one:

Shark Week: Helena

I sent a note last night to all ten of my nieces & nephews, in order to get them to contribute to this week's "Shark Week: Guest Artists", here at Balsa Wood Tree House.

Prolific niece Helena's near-immediate contribution (with help from her friend Olivia)!

At the Movies

Can you guess which movie* I saw today with 2 of my siblings, 7 of my ten nieces & nephews, and my mother?

I drew this from memory after we got home, while I was drawing with my nephew Sawyer:

"I am Groot!"

* "Guardians of the Galaxy"

Whomping Willow

I found out that J.K. Rowling had written a few new "Harry Potter" stories in July, so I went over to the Pottermore website to read them. However, in order to do so I had to sign up for the website.

It's actually pretty cool. You have to fill out a few quizzes, which allow for you to: a) be sorted into your 'proper' Hogwarts house, and b) receive the wand that is meant for your temperament. After that, you can either just read the stories, or dive deeper into the world that exists on the website (heading over to Daigon Alley to buy your First Year supplies; going over all of the novels' chapters & performing tasks to earn galleons & other useful things; reading behind the scenes info bits, etc...).

Anyway, today I was drawing with a few of my nieces & nephews, and I drew myself into that world (I am a Ravenclaw), being swatted up and into the air by my interpretation of the Whomping Willow!

Soda is Bad for You

This morning I was watching a documentary about the 20 animals which are most dangerous to humans. As the show went along, the narrator would let us know the average number of deaths each animal causes per year.

The ostrich causes two deaths per year, which, apparently, is the same number caused by vending machines toppling over onto people!

So...

Throw Back Thursday

Is it the late 60's? Is it disco? It's hard to tell, but it's definitely not 2014...

Lost Jedi - This Way 2

I finally finished the "Lost Jedi" drawing I began on Tuesday. Here is the final colored work, both with regular filter and the "Aquarium" setting that makes it look aged, or on old parchment, plus the original sketch again:

Kenzor Moh and R6-D8 are led to safety through a Mossuan village...

Alot

An old high school friend (Thanks Holly!) posted a link to an interesting and funny article about grammar. I was inspired by the "Alot" creature, so I drew my interpretation of a "Spring Alot":

Guest Artists: Easter-ish

I was drawing with a few of my nieces yesterday at my brother's house (there was a sleepover), and we couldn't come up with anything 'timely' to draw. So we decided to do some scenes where "Easter egg time" didn't go quite right...

Helena's "That's Not a Chicken Egg!"

Jackie's "Hungry Bunnies & Aliens"

Uncle Kenny's "Steal an Egg for Ariel"

In the Margins

I have a notebook that I keep near the tv/reading chair for jotting down ideas and doodling. I forget what show or movie I was watching last week, but I drew the picture below. I colored it tonight. It's an old doll near a broken wall:

"Aquarium" flash setting - I prefer this one.

"Indoor" flash setting - washed out, but closer to real life.

The Bashful Squid

Not all of my drawings end up resulting in what I went after. I drew a practice version of this squid in ink, and then wanted to try a different approach for the 'true' drawing. I used the colored pencils to lay out the form first, and then inked over the creature afterward (instead of pencils, inks, then color).

She is floating under the sea, bubbling away happily, yet feeling a bit shy about having her image rendered...

Mappy

I've been playing Grand Theft Auto V on my PS3 a lot lately, and I have the map draping down from the top of the bookcase my tv sits atop. Staring at the map over and over, a curious figure took shape in my mind, so I drew it:

The figure's fist should be a bit larger, with the fingers tilted more toward the face, but I am mostly happy with how it turned out.

Pre-Recap

"Pre-Recap" ...is that an oxymoron?

Sometimes when I first wake up, I draw in my journal on the page allocated for the day's wrap-up. Then, at the end of the day I write around the drawing, thus saving both the day's events of note, and a work of art (such that it may be).

Guest Artists - Niece & Nephew

I was at my brother Kevin's house for the day yesterday, and I brought my 18" x 24" sketch pad. I spent some time drawing with my niece Jackie, and after a bit, my nephew Jared joined in as well.

We all drew on the same giant page, so find below the entirety, and then the close-ups of our 'designated areas':

Jackie had the left, I had the right, and Jared grabbed a pencil & joined in awhile later on top!

Jackie's aliens and flowers!

I showed Jackie a shortcut to drawing roses. I also drew a robot and a yeti!

Jared copied my robot (and added his own spin), and then he drew its rocket ship!
