DDD Days 25 - 27

I spent all morning drawing the previous entry, and all evening doing this one. I combined Days 25 through 27 of the Challenge in order to catch up. Plus, the idea popped into my head right after finishing the pipe & box. So:

Urus the Minotaur gets separated from his friends, and finds himself navigating a Treacherous Ledge overlooking the ruins of an ancient Cursed Altar...

DDD Day 23

Back when Tim & Steve and I were playing Dungeons & Dragons in junior high and high school, there were so many cool and fascinating races to role-play or encounter, that the gnome seemed superfluous. Dwarves, halflings, orcs and even kobolds seemed WAY more cool.

So when Day 23's challenge came due, I knew I wouldn't have any heroic ideas in mind for the Seasoned Gnomish Warrior. So I drew this:

Ohr Durv is a gnome warrior (see his ultimately useless sword at the right hand side of the bowl?), and he is being well-seasoned! I laughed the whole time I drew this... Gnomes belong in mushroom gardens!

DDD Days 15 - 16

I got tired of the Week 2 part of the #DungeonDrawingDudes Challenge, and left out the final five drawings of that time span. But today I decided to jump into Week 3 and play a bit of catch-up.

Day 15 is a Forest Temple Map:

I drew it on a post-it note. I knew I wanted a Central America-style pyramid and a small village. I also added a stream and some column ruins in two places, plus the location of the Holy Spring (Day 18) and Ancient Golem Puzzle (Day 19), in the center of the right hand part of the drawing.

Day 16 is a drawing of Camembert, who is an Overprepared Elven Bard:

I gave him a ton of weapons, his trusty lute, and the aforementioned map. I haven't colored him yet, because I love the ink job, and from experience, sometimes the coloring process ruins the drawing.

Winter Storm Noah

While the snow outside is only around 2 inches so far, we are projected to get up to 8 during the current winter storm. So I drew Noah and his animal pals on the ark. Though I think only Noah is actually enjoying the snow ride!

Inking

I bought a sticker/activity book a few weeks ago because it was full of basic outlines of Marvel superheroes. I love to 'adjust' other peoples' work, to see what a collaboration looks like. So today I took the Iron Man image within, and added inks and my own color scheme:

I like to make armor shiny! And as usual, I added both preferred filters, 'indoor' and 'aquarium', because I love both camera effects...

DDD Days 6 - 7

As I watched a 2-hour episode of "The Amazing Race" (dvr'ed, viewed from 10 pm - almost 1 am) I cranked out the final 2 challenges for the first week: 6) Dragon Turtle and 7) Wave Breaker Mask.

Hamz an'Dwych puts on the magical mask "Wavebreaker" and dives into the sea, doing his best to avoid the ancient dragon turtle guardian of the underwater entrance which leads to the cave complex, as he follows the hermit's riddle to the long-sought treasure.

DDD Day 5

An unexpected (but hoped for) day off due to a winter storm gave me the chance to draw #DungeonDrawingDudes Challenge Day 5, "Seaside Hermit Riddle".

"If you wish to win the treasure
You must solve my written measure.
The careful-done primary hurdle
Is passing by the dragon turtle.
The second task which you must know
Should bring you to the caves below.
Statues left and statues right
Will guide your path, not give you fright.
And last (not least) espy a book
Inside there'll be best treasure took!"

The adventuring dwarf Hamz an'Dwych trades some supplies (and hooch!) to the seaside hermit for riddle-style instructions to a treasure that the lame castaway cannot reach on his own. Hamz's Treasure Compass only guides over large distances, and is not for finely-tuned directions...

DDD Days 2 - 4

Work and weather and the Superbowl have slowed down my daily progress, so I combined three days into one drawing. It had to include: 2) a Dwarven Spelunker, 3) a Treasure Compass (?) and 4) a Shipwreck:

Wandering dwarf adventurer Hamz an'Dwych follows his magical treasure compass past a wrecked ship toward Calamari Cove, looking for lost riches!

DDD Day One

1) Ocean Cavern Map: The Caves of Calamari Cove

Located on a remote southwestern shore, Calamari Cove is a seldom-visited place, despite its fantastic weather, due to occasional rough seas, storms arising from nothing, and mysterious beasts.

A lone hermit is known to live in a hut near the twin spires of The Claw. There are many shipwrecks from ages past (mostly to the northwest). And within the coastal hill: many natural caves which have been furnished or repurposed for various uses over the centuries. At least one of them is used by the hermit, and the others have had visits (for various purposes) from time to time...

Instagram Drawing Challenge

Several artists I follow on Instagram are doing a challenge for February, where each day a specified drawing must be completed. Each week's 7 drawings compose a mini-story. I am going to try to keep up with a daily drawing as well. The list is:

Follow along on Instagram with the #DungeonDrawingDudes hashtag, or under any of the names in the image above, or on my own Instagram feed if you prefer not to check in here every day.
